Malkia and Xandier are fated lovers. The Marloo people are their people. Xandier is a prince serving the queen of the Marloo people. Xandier and Malkia don't realize their genetic link will save their kind from an evil princess, who will take over upon the Queen's demise. The Queen is sick and aging. She has no successor besides the evil princess who is not her child.Malkia is a genetic successor to the throng but she doesn't know this. She was essentially a part of the lower class of citizens. She was brought to the Queen and tricked to believe she would be Xandier's concubine. If she knew the truth the Queen feared the evil princess would do her harm.
Malkia and Xandier become intimate and it is too powerful for them to leave it at one encounter, which is what the Queen leads them to believe it will be only one encounter.
Malkia and Xandier sneak away several times to pursue their desires.
Unknown to Malkia is is the rightful air to the throne. She was misplaced after birth.
Eventually the evil princess is able to harm Malkia with the help of a very unlikely source. This part actually shocked me, didn't really see it coming.
In the end Xandier must fight to save Malkia.

It was ok. The foreign words confused me when they did not have an immediate meaning. I skipped around ALOT halfway through. I would not recommend this book.
The author took a chance on this one. I have heard great things about her writing; but this book being read on an electronic reader (kindle) was difficult. There are words in Swahilli and an imaginative language used throughout the text. There is a glossary in the back but on the electronic reader I found it hard to use. I had considered printing out the glossary to refer back to, but instead I did not complete the book.Seems like a good story though, so I will purchase it in paper.
The love scenes were great, of course. But, I actually enjoyed the telling of the story. The characters were well developed. I love how devoted Xandier was to Malkia. I loved the traditions--the kuangaza, the yhana, rogsuri, the sashes and how they identify the career field, the order that they eat their food--all of this was beautifully woven into the story. The only minor thing I was frustrated with was having to flip back and forth using my kindle to get to the definitions to understand the words. Every time I turned around, there was a new word. I ended up glossing over a lot of the exclamations and only looking up the words that I needed to know to understand the story. Regardless, I highly recommend this book.
I almost put this one down, after I read the intro from the author about a glossary on the words used (just didn't feel like flipping back and forth on the kindle). Glad I decided to read this story, because the context in which the strange words were used was pretty self-explanatory. Also the author smoothly explained the meaning of most of the words in the text.
Ms Hines has always been a favorite of mine and this one story was tight, too the point and pretty damn hot on the love scenes--can't use the word sex, because the Prince was too smooth. I thought the female was a little too naive and subservient, at first, but her ways tied into the ways of their world. She was strong, smart, and he was a warrior, with a possessive streak. I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it.
I was slightly disappointed with this book. I was expecting more from the raving reviews this book received. The story was not bad but I can not put this book in my favorites. I believe it was the made up language that threw me off. Some of the words I could figure out from the context in which they were used and by the end of the book I knew some of the words but having to stop and look up a word interrupted the flow of the book and therefore, I was not able to enjoy as much. I also would have like a little more adventure in the plot (they are suppose to be Malaroo warriors!) I found it a tad bit boring and also needed was a little more interaction between Xandier and Malkia. However, the attraction (even though a little weird) and sex were great. This was the first book I read from Ms Hines and not the last. I actually just finished reading Bear's Gold. I liked that one much better.
Pleasuring the Queen is a sci-fi, interracial, sensuous romance novel about lost royalty and meeting one's 'genetic match' a.k.a. "mate". This was a great read! The pace of the book was great. No grammatical errors. Wonderful love scenes with great erotica.
Xandier and Malkia are reared in two different worlds - his is royal guard and hers is lower class 'gomanyaks' merchant. Shunapi-Fiy hears rumors that a royal child exists amongst the lower class and asks her trusted aide, Jamaa to find her. That royal is Malkia the child of Shunapi's cousin, Muusha. Malkia doesn't know she royal but Xandier-Fiy does.
When Malkia and Xandier meet their feelings combust.....literally they have a 'fever' for each other that cannot be denied.
This story has drama, suspense, great love scenes, intrigue, twists and turns. You won't be able to put it down.
Ms Hines did a great job! Now bring on "Redeeming a Warrior" Thiel's story because I can't wait!!!
